Turkey Medicals member JCI Antalya hospital Hematology Specialist Professor Doctor said, “Our country has very clearly made a big breakthrough in marrow transplant in Turkey and we are now in the top 5 in Europe. It is possible to say this with pride,” he explained.
Prof. Dr. made evaluations in Kyrenia, Turkish Republic of North Cyprus, where he came to participate in the 6th Hematological Oncology Congress.

The health field, especially in rational drug applications, Prof. Dr. also pointing to the fore recently, general oncology, cancer almost a lot in the last 10 years there have been more targeted groups in the molecule and that he underlined that gives me great hope to these patients.
Prof. Dr. He noted that a period has now begun in which rational molecules with a lower side effect profile than other healthy cells are being used more intensively, focusing especially on tumor cells, rather than a single chemotherapy for all patients.
Emphasizing that this period is a period when standard chemotherapies have been moved away as much as possible, Prof. Dr. said that this has started the era of special treatments.
“So two patients may have the same diagnosis, but because the genetic characteristics of their tumors are different from each other, they may respond to different medications. We aim to evaluate them with different methods in advance and apply right treatment to the right patient. We are now at the point of successfully implementing this in Antalya city, Turkey,” he said.

WE ARE IN THE TOP 5 IN EUROPE
Prof. Doctor, he continued as follows:
“Turkey has made a great breakthrough in marrow transplantation and we are in the top 5 in Europe. It is possible to say this with pride. Today, as of 2018, 5 thousand stem cell transplants can be performed annually in our country. Great developments have been made in this field in the last 15 years, especially with the support of the Ministry of Health in Turkey. The number of both pediatric and adult centers has increased very rapidly. The number of our teachers working on this issue has increased. Especially the transplantation is very successful, we also do it at very reasonable prices compared to Europe and the USA.”
Reminding that these developments in the field of bone marrow transplantation in Turkey have become an important door of hope for Turkey health tourism, Prof. Doctor stated that a very large number of patients from abroad have come to Turkey for transplantation and have regained their health.
Emphasizing that the developments in the field of medicine in recent years are important reflections, Prof. Dr. said, “We were a little dependent on Europe and the USA for marrow transplants that we would do from someone else because we were behind before and did not have our own database. This problem has been solved to a great extent with the TÜRKÖK Project, which was commissioned in April 2016. We are now able to find a compatible transmitter from our own country sources for roughly 60 percent of those who do not have a sister transmitter in Turkey. We are able to achieve this at a lower cost of 1 in 5 compared to the stem cells we provide from abroad,” he said.
